Book Summary
Great Expectations is a book about a boy who has to go through difficult obstacles. He grows up in great poverty, but ends up being wealthy. He is embarrassed when he must relive the hard life he used to have. Being raised by someone other than his biological parents (who died when he was young) is a hard concept to grasp, yet Pip (the main character) has become himself in the process. When Pip’s life completely changes; being poor to becoming wealthy he sees himself in a new way, dropping the family and friends who adore him is what happens first. Growing up from poverty is not something that Pip is proud of and will not share his life before wealth to anyone, but Estella; his love. Pip meets Estella when he goes to help out Miss. Havisham; her adopted mother. Pip and Estella have a lot going for them, she shows a sort of loyalty to him and he shows a great love towards her. She tells him she will toy with all men, but him. In the end Pip and Estella grow apart and when Drummle asks Estella for her hand in marriage and accepts it, the love that was ever there was deserted.
